Tonttutalon taustat

Ajattelin näin jouluillan pimetessä hieman raottaa salaisuuden verhoa joulukalenterina toimineessa tonttutalossamme. Tein talon asukkaat, tontut, joululahjaksi vanhemmilleni pari vuotta sitten. Ne on tehty Das-massasta ja maalattu akryylimaaleilla. Lakit ovat kartonkia ja hiukset pellavakuitua. Tontut on tehty muistuttamaan perhettämme (myös koirat ovat edustettuina), joten voitte arvailla kumpi tyttötontuista on Anna ja kumpi Leeni ;)! Isä-tonttu on oma suosikkini. Inspiraatio tontuille ja kaapille tuli  meille rakkaista Wil Huygenin ja Rien Poortvlietin Suuresta tonttukirjasta ja Tonttujen kutsusta. Voin suositella niitä lämpimästi kaikille! Kirjoissa on ihastuttavan tarkkoja kuvauksia tonttujen asumuksista ja elintavoista, ja kuvitus on ihan uskomattoman hienoa! 
 Tonttukaapin teimme Annan kanssa yhteistyönä viime jouluksi tonttujen kodiksi. Kaappi oli oikeastaan alkusysäys koko miniatyyriharrastukselle, mutta tonttuperheen kaltaisia hahmoja olemme askarrelleet ennenkin. Ostin kaapin muistaakseni Kodin Terrasta, mutta hiomme siitä koristetekstin pois, koska se ei oikein sopinut projektin henkeen (New York Loft..). 
Monet koristeaiheet talossa ovat Poortvlietin kuvituksille uskollisia. Talossa oleva arkku on myös Tonttu-kirjojen inspiroima. Emme joulukalenterissa paljastaneet, mitä arkun sisällä on, koska se on tonttujen suurin salaisuus.. Jos olette lukeneet kirjat, tiedättekin mistä on kysymys!

I thought I might tell you a bit about the history of this advent calendar house and it's occupants. I made the elves a couple of years ago as a Christmas gift for my parents. The elves are supposed to resemble our family, so you can guess which elf girl is Anna and which is Leeni :)! My personal favorite elf is Dad. Elves are made of Das-clay and they are painted with acrylic paint. The hats are made of carton, and hair is linen fibre. Sources of inspiration for both the elves and the house are the elf books by Wil Huygen and Rien Poortvliet. I can really recommend these book, they are wonderful!
We made the elf house together last year, also as a gift to our parents, and it was actually the beginning of our miniature hobby. When I bought the cabinet it had a decorative text (New York Loft) on the doors but since it didn't fit in the theme very well we decided to remove it ;).. We used many elements of Poortvliet's illustrations in the interiors of the house. The trunk is also from Huygen and Poortvliet's books. We never showed you what is inside the trunk since it is the greatest secret the elves have. If you have read the book you know what I'm talking about, of course!

Joulupäivä

Jouluaamu valkenee rauhallisena.
The morning of Christmas Day is peaceful.

Tonttulapsetkin ovat heränneet. Jouluaamuna jouluaaton jännitys on ohitse ja on aikaa tutkia vaikka lahjojaan.

The children have woken up too. The excitement is over and it's time to relax.

Joulupäivänä pidetään tietysti rääppiäiset!

Aikaisin aattoaamuna Anna kuuli hentoa äänten sorinaa kaapin luota. Hiivimme katsomaan, ja mitä muuta näimmekään kuin tämän tonttuperheen kaapin edustalla!

Early in the morning Anna heard quite cheerful voices from the cabinet. We went to look and finally saw the elf family there!

He tervehtivät ystävällisesti ja valittelivat kiireisyyttään joulun alla.

They greeted me warmly and were sorry about being so busy just before Christmas.

Joulupöytä on katettu. Toivotamme kaikille onnellista joulua!

Christmas dinner is served. We wish everybody a very happy Christmas!

Christmas table has been prepared! Strange, they have the same serving as our own table.

Valot ovat syttyneet kaappiin! Punaisia hiippalakin vilahduksia näkyy silmäkulmissa useammin.

Lights are on in the cabinet! Many times we've seen glimpses of red in the corner of the eye.

Keittiössä taidetaan valmistella juhlaa, arkun päälle on ilmestynyt valtaisa juustotarjotin!

They must be preparing for a party, there is a huge cheese tray on the trunk in the kitchen.

Pikkuinen koira! Uuni on lämmitetty hiljattain, taitaa tuollainen ohut eläin pitää lämmöstä.

A tiny dog! The oven is warm, I quess that kind of a thin creature likes the warmth.

Asukkaat pitävät lukemisesta! Voisi vaikka vannoa, että joku lähti ihan hetki sitten tästä uunia lämmittämästä, mutta emme nähneet ketään.

The little ones like reading! Someone was definitely here a moment ago since the oven is still warm. We didn't see anyone though.

Keinutuoli ja kirja, taas tontuista! Hitaampikin alkaa oivaltaa, keitä täällä asustaa. Onneksi emme häätäneet niitä alkuunsa!

A rocking chair and a book, yet again about elves! We are starting to get a hold of who is living here. We are glad we didn't make them leave in the first place!

Kammarissakin on nyt matto lattialla. Olen jo aika varma, että ne asuvat siellä, rapistelua kuuluu. Kuvan ottohetkellä kuului ihan kuin sanomalehden rapinaa, outoa...

The bedroom has also got a new rug on the floor. We are pretty sure they are already living in there, we've heard muffled noise from inside the house. At the time Anna took this photo, she heard a sound just like news paper's pages turning, that's strange...

Hyvää Lucian päivää! Valon juhlan kunniaksi kuistilla on pikkuinen lumilyhty. En taaskaan saanut kunnon kuvaa pikkuolioista, mutta olen aika varma että tämä on eri tyyppi kuin viime kerralla.

It's St. Lucia's day, the celebration of light! Little ones have built a snow lantern and I almost got one in the picture! I do think this is some different than the previous one.

Matka-arkku on kannettu sisälle. Muuttopuuhat lienevät kohta loppusuoralla?

A trunk has been placed in the kitchen. Maybe they have already moved in?

The lovely first snow has covered the porch softly. The double rocking chair invites you to rock a bit.

Kaapissa on jo aika kotoisaa! Hei, mikä tuolla kuvan laidassa vilahtaa? Ehti kadota ennen kuin sain selvää! Se liikkui vikkelästi kuin hiiri, mutta hiiri se ei kyllä ollut.

It's starting to look quite cosy in the cabinet! But hey, what's that in the right corner of the photo? It disappeared quickly as a mouse but it definitely was not a mouse.

Hyvää Annan päivää! Meillä leivotaan yleensä pipareita 9.12. Kaapin olennotkin ovat näyttäneet olevan leivontapuuhissa.

Happy Anna's day (we celebrate name days, and it is my name's day today). We make ginger bread December 9th and it seems like the creatures in the cabinet make too.

Luulen, että täällä on nukuttu. Lamppu ja kirja ovat ilmestyneet yöpöydälle. Kirjan nimi on Tonttujen kutsu. Onkohan se jonkinlainen vihje?

I think they have been sleeping here. There is a lamp and a book on the side table. The book is titled "The invite of the elves". Is that some kind of a hint?
